Start working on Colony Stamp Project due MONDAY
For this project students will create a stamp for their colony based on the things they have learned about its history. I attached an example of one I created for Connecticut. On the back of the stamp they need to write why they chose to draw/write/show the things they did, and where they got their facts. For Example: I wrote "Founded in 1636" on my Connecticut stamp because according to paragraph 1 of the Colony Handout, Connecticut was founded in 1636 by Thomas Hooker.

Along with the stamp they will need to write a multi-paragraph letter. They will imagine that they have just moved to their colony (they've each already been assigned a colony) with their family from England. The letter will be to one of their friends back in England and MUST describe what the new colony is like and what they have been doing there. It must be based on the facts that they have been pulling from their research. Use the white hard stock squares to create your stamp.
BackFront

Discuss with a partner about the following before you plan your writing:

 Geography means what the land was like (were there mountains? was it near a river? was the soil good for growing crops?). What was the geography like in your colony?
 "varying faiths" means people of all different religions lived there together. What religion(s) was/were practiced in your colony?
 The difference between "settler" and "settlement". Were you a settler or were you part of the settlement?
 What were the following occupations: lumbering, manufacturing textiles, whaling, dairy farming, raising livestock, merchants, etc,
 What are the different parts of a letter?
 Will you use a Tree Map or Flow Map to plan your letter?
 What are the parts of a letter?
 What will you need to earn a 4 in your letter?

Reading- Treasures Anthology
 Read Sleds on Boston Common on pp. 100- 119
 Answer questions #1-6 on pp. 119 on a sheet of lined paper and turn in on Monday

Math- Use your Math Journal for all work

With a partner review adding and multiplying decimals.

  2.32           30.2
+1.45          x 5.0

When we add decimals, we have to line up the decimal points. Remember you t can use graph paper or turn lined paper sideways to help you keep your numbers lined up properly. To multiply, multiply normally, ignoring the decimal points. Then put the decimal point in the answer - it will have as many decimal places as the two original numbers combined.

The problem of the day I've attached mentions "area" and "perimeter". We've learned this, Discuss the difference with your partner.

YOU MUST each show your own work on a separate piece of paper with your name on top (staple it behind the work sheet when handing it in). Early finishers can work on the math games they are making.

Music at 1:30! ALL WORK MUST BE COMPLETED and TURNED IN ON MONDAY!!
